I read this over the weekend while sitting in airports and on airplanes, which seems appropriate. I even really enjoyed it for the first 100 pages or so! "oh, don, I see what you did there! cultural studies CAN be ridiculous! we ARE surrounded by a numbing plague of advertising and packaging!"

I hesitated to give this book a 5, because I can't say it rates as one of my favorite books I've ever read just because I don't think these characters will linger with me. However, Goodreads describes a 5 as "it was amazing" and it certainly was. The writing was what was particularly amazing. It was almost poetic without rhythm or verse while conveying an ongoing feeling of "white noise" throughout the novel. Wonderful writing. I would recommend it to anyone, but of the two Delillo novels I have read I much prefered Libra. Still, a lot of interesting ideas can be found in this one. It just didn't do it for me, but I might just be in a reading slump these days.
