This is classic sci-fi that really stands up to the test of time. It was very engaging, amusing, and mysterious. The ending took me by surprise, which was a nice treat. Essentially the town of Midwich has a "day off" in which everyone falls fast asleep all at once wherever they happened to be. Later, they all wake up at the same time and go about there business. But inexplicable has occurred while they were passed out, and life in Midwich changes dramatically. Mix in British sensibilities and it ...more

Would like to begin with saying how amazing the 1957 cover is. Some of the book cover art from this time period is fabulous. I feel a little cheated sometimes on how generic most book covers now are.

Still formulating on how I feel about this book... at parts I would have given it one star, others five. However, I know I'll be musing this book over for weeks to come and will read again, so four stars. Definitely a must-read as one of the classics of dystopian, sci-fi, or horror genres (kind of c
