I seldom give a middle of the road rating but if I compare this to other books I've read that were more gripping and ramped up the action sooner, then this doesn't rank higher than 3.5. At 750+ pages, too long. Way too long. It spends too much time with the 'sleepwalkers' walking and other filler like the 'rock star' Pete though he did kind of grow on you after awhile. Brilliant! I had to check the date that it was written. So much covid like stuff and written in 2019. Well developed characters, interesting twists and even though it was a long 32 hour listen, it kept my attention for the majority of it. Some parts got a little long or repetitive but for the most part the story chugged a long at a great pace. I really enjoyed the ending, even though it leaves room for the next part of the story.

An apocalyptic book with a different look at how civilization ends. A variety of flawed heroes, a disease that gradually destroys the mind, an all-encompassing computer program that may or may not have humans' best interest in its coding...and much more. Definitely a must-read for end-of-the-world aficionados. ...more
