"EOTWAWKI-with magical Nora Roberts Style"
This book started out with a confusing, mysterious ancient magical event, that quickly turns into devasting, world wide spread of plague and death.
In the aftermath of the very fast demise of most of the worlds population, we meet the ensemble cast that start out as small separate groups, gradually merging into a group of suvivors that gather in a small town in West Virginia? (can't remember that at the moment).

I admit it, I love dystopian stories and this one sucked me right in. I don't have many complaints but I have to wonder about the fates of some of the characters I came to love! I hope to find out in the next installment that they are still a part of the story.

This started slow for me, but it sped up. An interesting take on apocalyptic events with a paranormal twist - people developing paranormal powers and personalities - fae, elves, etc. It's good vs. very evil. A sad event at the end with a nice twist. I can't wait to read book 2!

Nice to see Nora Roberts breaking out of her usual kinds of stories and into the post apocalyptic world. I'm definitely eager to see where she'll take these characters.

An excellent start
I wish it weren't another ten months until the next book is published! A great end-of-the-world story from an unexpected author. ...more

I got about a third of the way through. Too much graphic violence (especially against women) and surprisingly foul language. Also, the quality of the writing wasn't very good. Just not for me.

This is basically the Hallmark movie version of The Stand 😒 It was okay but not very original at all, and the writing was kind of weak - very dialogue heavy and not very polished. I'll have to decide if it's worth continuing the series or not.
