What Members Thought
Loved it! Takes about 20 pages to get into the "groove" of her narration and the story, but it's worth it. I originally had heard it's sequel to Oryx and Crake, but actually takes place during the exact same time period. Really 4.5 stars.

The Year of the Flood isn't quite as good as Oryx and Crake, but it's still a really compelling story. It offers more background and detail about the various factions in Atwood's future world, and the lessons remain just as chilling.

This dystopian novel turned out to be a prequel to Oryx & Crake, which I read awhile ago. It was good enough that I now want to go back and read Oryx & Crake because I don't remember what happened. This novel was actually quite disturbing in that you could imagine our society getting to exactly this point. It describes the world leading up to a plague that wipes out most of society.
