This was a really interesting view of what life might be have been like in the 1960's in the US if Japan and Germany had won WWII. In this story, Japan rules the west coast of the US, Germany has the east coast (and seems to have done a lot of damage to the rest of the world in terms of wiping out "undesirables"). Jews are pretty much non-existent. Slavery is legal again, almost unimaginable to me. I found the emphasis on the I Ching to be fascinating. Very interesting, overall. The ending leave ...more

I think some reviewers try to read to much into Mr. Dick's novels or focus too much on his rambling and eccentricities. Fair criticism for a novel like Valis or the Three Stigmata, but sometimes, he is just going fo ...more

This was not what I was expecting. I am used to big overarching stories about worlds and people and times. This was more little peeks into individual scenes in people's lives. It was good, of course. I enjoyed it. Thought the ending was a bit anticlimactic. I was expecting guns blazing, or great things happening, and instead it just flowed, like the rest of the book, as life does.
