Really enjoyed this book and was impressed at the creation of a unique world. I quite liked the main character Chris, whose wit and civility is easy to be charmed by.

The whole concept of a portion of society living a very different type of life (the comparison is made in the book to deaf culture, with those who are deaf, those who use a cochlear implant, and those who are hearing). In this book, there are the Hadens who live via "threeps" (robotic sensory input avatars) and those who spend time

I honestly can’t believe I actually finished this book. I never connected with any of the characters and found the plot to be boring. It was an easy and quick read (or I’d have never finished it) but something was missing for me. I tried....

Took over a year to listen to this audiobook because it was purchased on my husband’s phone for a long road trip. Entertaining enough but don’t think I’ll read the rest of the series.

I'm not a huge sci-fi fan. But I've come to realize that really good sci-fi illuminates the human condition in a way that other genres cannot. It also succeeds on a more basic level, as a tightly plotted detective novel set in a near futu ...more

This is my first Scalzi book. First of all, I totally thought this was going to be something completely different. I didn’t realize it was going to be a fairly light and breezy read. It sounded pretty grim from the description. So I was a bit surprised.

I loved how it ended up being a murder mystery of sorts set in the not too distant future. I enjoyed the characters however, I am hope by with more books in the future we can dig deeper into Chris and vann’s characters. I don’t feel I know though

3.5 stars. I read the audio version of this book narrated by Wil Wheaton. The whole "Lock-In" concept was hard to grasp on audio --I did not understand the ThreeP concept until, like, Chapter 3 or 4. Once I understood it was like an android/C3PO it made a whole lot more sense. Beyond that I really liked it. I love Scalzi's writing, it's always a joy to read his books. ...more
