This sequel alternates narrators between Ky and Cassia. I found Ky's voice a lot harder to follow at first because I was already used to Cassia from the first book. (It made me think of Spinelli's sequel Love, Stargirl where the switch of narrators from book one to book two was not to my liking.) However, as the stories converge, it was easier to get over the switch.

I hope this makes sense - it was exactly the same as Matched, just a different set of events. I don't know whether that's a good thing, or a bad thing. Nevertheless, I love this novel. At the same time I couldn't understand how forgiving Cassia is, because when Ky lied to her, I would have been upset though she remained calm and understood him, I appreciated this because it is far from the usual 'Girl' in stories. At times, I disliked Ky. Perhaps because we were seeing more of his personality; h

After having read Matched (in my native language - German), I was eager to step into Cassia's world again. Unfortunately Crossed turned out to be a bit of a disappointment. I had so many expectations for this book ...
This is not to say that I didn't enjoy reading Crossed. It was an easy read, but nothing more than that. I especially missed the world building. There are so many questions to be answered: what is the Society exactly? who runs it? who is the enemy? what are anomalies? what and who i ...more

I have been looking forward to Crossed ever since I read the first book Matched this summer in Montreal. Matched was swift, heartfelt, engaging and sprikled with poetry and literary themes. Lovely. I expected some more of the same from Crossed, but it exceeded my expectations.
The writing was complex and the characters had so much more emotional depth to them. This may be in part due to the fact that Ky had half the book to himself (yay). I loved both POVs, but Cassia's voice felt stronger. I lo ...more

Unfortunately, Crossed on its own merits is merely an adequate stop in Cassia and Ky's story. The book alternates between Cassia and Ky's points of view, which is initially helpful, but about halfway through, it becomes very difficult to tell who is speaking. We learn more about the Society and what lays beyond, and there is a clear set-up for the third book. Hopefully, the next one will bring it all together.
