I didn't enjoy this one as much as the first, though there's not too much difference in the writing style. There were way more 'clunkers' in this one, just bad baaad sentences that fell flat on the page, but by the middle of the book either things got better, or I was just too caught up in the plot to notice anymore.

If you liked the Butlerian Jihad, you'll like this one. However, if you were hoping that Brian Herbert's writing style matured with this book, your hopes are in vain. Herbert demonstrates that good writing is learned not inherited. This book could be about half the size if he would clean up his writing style, leave a little to the imagination, and not give a brief history of a character every time they appear in the book as if we all had short term memory problems. I'm doing a re-read of the dune series. I'd forgotten some of the details in this book. There is so much content. And it occurs over the space of over a hundred years. I love origin stories and this details the beginning of the BG, Mentats, the Guild, as well as the great houses.
