I love this book. Author created an amazing world. World-building was awesome. Characters were great but here is my problem with this book; I felt like they (the characters) werent well-developed. Alina's character did a complete 180 within the novel, towards the end. She starts as this weak girl who is in love with her childhood friend Mal to a strong and courageous woman who fights for what is right. Which is great. But this change happens in like last 2 chapters. No development. It just happe I love this book. Author created an amazing world. World-building was awesome. All book she whines whines whines because of Mal. When it was discovered she was the sun summoner she had to leave Mal behind and go to the Little Palace to train. So all those times she spent at Little Palace, instead of trying to accept who she is and her power, instead of really REALLY trying to train herself, she fights it. We learn the reason why she fights so much is because she didnt wanna leave Mal behind, she didnt want a life without him even when she was a child.

I'm sorry, what? Thats it?! What is so special about this boy? She wasted all these years by thinking she was in love but in reality she was just obsessed. If we were given more explanation about why she was pushing back her powers so much I'd have understand but Mal is the only reason we're given and I'm mad because of that.

Ok, lets come to the most interesting character in this book: The Darkling. The Darkling is a very intriguing (and yummy) individual. He is powerful, he is smart, and he is dark. I'm extremely curious to know more about his back story and about him in general. I think its obvious he is not gone for good and I hope we learn about him more

There is a love triangle going on but with a twist. Its not something we're used to because Darkling's relationship with Alina is different. Its based on other things like lust but hahaha everyone at Little Palace basically lusts after Darkling,anyway ;D

I must say I'm team Darkling on this one. They probably wont get together but I liked Darkling more than Mal .Even though Darkling is mad. That should tell you something

I had high hopes for Shadow and Bone, and though the world-building and character development was great, I just felt like something was missing from the story, though I can't put my finger on what it was.

However, I'm going to see what Siege and Storm, the sequel has in store for me, and hopefully I find whatever I thought was missing in there.

Overall, I'm glad that I started the series because of the amount of hype surrounding this series. ...more

This was a pretty good book. I give it more 3.5 stars. Did I think it was amazing? No. But I am looking forward to reading the 2nd book and hopefully more things come together. I liked the characters of this book but I wish there was a little bit more world building and I feel like not a lot happened in this book. I hope to see more in the second book.
And I am also still looking forward to seeing the Netflix adaptation of this book.

Okay here it goes. This book had an awesome concept and it's nice finding something interestin and new these days.
Also congrats to the writer cause i totally fell for the plot twist, i excpected some trouble but not that honestly. I was as confused as alina.

I loved Alina's transformation so so much. She was insecure and withdrawn and not okay in her own skin. And She bloomed and it was great seeing how strong and confident she became.

Now onto my confusion. I really don't know what to think about ...more

Me esperaba un poco mas. Es un libro que esta bien escrito y con un mundo diferente y bien desarrollado. Pero por otra parte los personajes no me han dicho nada (ni siquiera el oscuro que a la mayor parte de la gente le encanta) y la historia me ha dejado bastante indiferente tambien, creo que en parte despues de haber leido Malaz esto me ha resultado demasiado simple y me ha faltado algo mas posiblemente si lo hubiese leido en otro momento lo hubiese disfrutado mucho mas.
