What Members Thought
Very unsure of my feelings about this book. I really wanted to be awed by it (it did win the Pulitzer after all), and the writing was beautiful. However . . . the best books make it seem as if I were right there living the events with the characters, yet with this one I felt on the outside looking in, watching things unfold from afar. I liked Werner and Marie-Laure, the young protagonists, but there was a certain lacking of warmth in the overall tone of the book. It was like Anthony Doerr wanted
