This book was such a pleasant surprise! I bought it last year (another product of the panic that ensued when Borders closed) and forgot about it. While I was rearranging my bookshelves a couple of weeks ago I found it and decided to give it a go. I wasn't expecting much, and I couldn't have been more pleased that I was wrong. Super-good! I have to say, better than re-reading those ol' R.L. Stine novels from middle school. Alender writes great characters--engaging and real, and while some may find the doors that slam on their own and appliances that turn on by themselves a tad cliche, I say who cares? They made the hair on the back of my neck stand on end, and that is a sure-fire indicator of a good ghost story. Love the cover, too. ...more
