There were parts where everything went to fast for me to catch up or to really understand something, and then there were others where the detail was perfect and just long enough. I felt like the writing wasn't consistent enough and at times felt like something was missing. And the characters were lacking substance to the point that even in the end I wasn't able to understand even Mary very well.

I wish we had been given more answers as to why cer I'm not really sure how to go about this review... There were parts where everything went to fast for me to catch up or to really understand something, and then there were others where the detail was perfect and just long enough. I felt like the writing wasn't consistent enough and at times felt like something was missing. And the characters were lacking substance to the point that even in the end I wasn't able to understand even Mary very well.

I wish we had been given more answers as to why certain things were happening and why the Infection happened and how people were able to build these chains around cities in time to keep the Unconsecrated out. The Sisterhood of course bothered me, and I liked how the author took the angle of religion. Even now, truths are hidden from us before the Infection is supposed to happen, but but feeding Gabrielle to the forest so she could become Unconsecrated was way beyond their authority. And it backfired in the end because it was Gabrielle that led the attack on their village, destroying it.

Even though Mary said more than once how much she loved Travis, the author was unable to make clear why she loved him so much. Her feelings for him weren't given to us and that's not something you can really assume. And how she paid no attention to him near the end when they were in the big house and she wanted to know who had lived there and where the stupid ocean was. Everyone just wanted to make Mary happy and she was selfish about it, and she realized too late what a horrible person she had been. It seemed as if she never even loved Travis or her brother or any of them. I can't believe she didn't look harder for her brother; she just accepted it and moved on. That bothered me more than anything that she could just move on from Beth and Travis and Jed's death so easily.

I would recommend this book if you like zombies, but it's not much of a romance only because of how selfish Mary is throughout the entire novel. And the plot simply fell short. ...more

It had almost non plot. Okay so there's a forest and zombies that are infecting the living. But what else? Where's the action? And the end? What about that guy?
