Infinity (Chronicles of Nick, #1) in And So It Begins Reading Challenge

4-4.5 stars for this one. I really liked this book, and despite it's size it was actually a pretty quick read. I know this is a sort of prequel series to an adult series, and in saying so (and not having read the adult series first) I imagine this is not what the fans of the series expected. It was close to being almost too childish I thought at some points. That being said I thought it was the perfect YA book and it was really hard tp put it down once I got into it. The constant sarcasm was truly beautiful. I've never read a novel so witty and honest in a way. Nick was constantly being rational, which is not often found in YA books this days. Apparently, teens will believe anything paranormal is happening to them without even questioning it. Nick was finding every reason to think everyone else around him was crazy, but soon he was forced to believe in things he never thought possible! Though zombies were the main threat here, it was about a lot more than that. Though what the whole rest of that is I'm really not sure, and I'm excited to see where this series is going.

So the relationship between Nick and his mom was...interesting. I thought he may have been a little too protective of her. Although I personally have never had either of their experiences or lifestyles, but I can imagine his mom (being the tough chick that she is) can pretty much take care of herself. I will admit she does get banged up a lot but I still thought he was being a little overprotective. It seems obvious that she will die because of him at some point in the series.

There was so much action in this novel it was hard to put down once I got past a certain point, and the mystery kept me interested when the action was lacking. The romance was a little sparce, but everything else kept me on my seat to the point where I barely even noticed it was missing. He and Ash were cute at the end though, and I love how Nick was so nervous when there was really no reason to be. Ah the mind of a teenage boy.
