Germany in World War 2…but with vampires
The whole entire book could be summarized as just that: Events from World War 2, Germany and the Holocaust—but with vampires thrown in for good measure. The connection between this book and actual historical events is really stunning. In the end, I felt more like I was reading a history textbook than a paranormal romance novel. Why? Natalie and Ash are both living in Black City, which has been ravaged by war, but their lives couldn't be more different. Natalie is the daughter of the Emissary, a woman with a lot of political power and she knows how to use it. Ash is a half-blood; he has a human father and a mother who's a Darkling--a blood sucking creature who lives on the fringe of society.

Since I already own an ARC of Phoenix and just received an ARC of the final book in the trilogy Wings I thought that it’s probably high time that a write a review for Black City. I was a little hesitant going into this book because I had heard it was about vampires and we all know that the whole vampire thing is way overdone in YA lit!

Great background story. The world was incredibly created. But that was the worst romance ever. Both the main couple (Ash and Natalie) and the love triangle were some of the worst I have ever seen.
