The whole Angel thing was ruined for me all because of a single book, they call it Fallen , yeah, thank you very much Lauren Kate. I can still remember the torture I had to endure while reading that literary equivalent of a diarrhea. God, it was horrible. But thank Goodness for my fellow good readers for your extra-ordinary power of Hyping books. Sometimes, you really hit a jackpot.

Unearthly follows Clara, a girl who’s part angel and part human. She keeps having a vision of saving a boy, Christian, from a forest fire. That vision is her “purpose”. Clara moves from sunny California to wintery Wyoming to fulfill her vision. But then things start to go awry when she realizes that she’s falling in love with Tucker.

I've been blogging since 2010, so this book has been on my radar since it was published. I even won this book in a giveaway in 2011, and it's been languishing on my bookshelf for far too long. I finally took the plunge and read it, and now I'm kicking myself for waiting so long!

Clara Gardner is not your typical 16-year-old. She is part-angel or, more specifically, a Quartarius (a quarter angelblood) born to a Dimidius mother (a half angelblood) and a human father. Clara Gardner is not your typical 16-year-old. She is part-angel or, more specifically, a Quartarius (a quarter angelblood) born to a Dimidius mother (a half angelblood) and a human father. Clara has a vision of a boy, who looks to be about 17 years old, standing in the trees with a fire blazing around them and when he hears her approaching, he turns and then it ends. She never gets to see his face. Clara's mother explains to her that this vision is about her life's purpose, and that she needs to figure it out so that they can be where they need to be. Her mom tells her to pay attention to the type of trees that are around her in the vision, and then she buys a field guide to help identify the type of tree. Clara also sees in her vision a silver truck, an Avalanche. From the markings on the license plate, she identifies that the plate is from Wyoming. This purpose business is so serious that Clara's mom sells their house in California and they move to Wyoming to find the place in Clara's vision.

When Clara attends the local high school in Jackson Hole, she spots the silver Avalanche in the parking lot and knows instantly when she sees the boy from her vision. Even though she's never seen his face, she knows it's him. His name is Christian Prescott, and she knows that she is meant to save him. So, she's found the boy. Now, she just needs to find the time and the place.

Clara becomes friends with Wendy Avery, whose twin brother Tucker is always tormenting her. When Christian and Wendy both go away for the summer, Clara spends time with Tucker and falls in love with him. This leaves her feeling conflicted, because she feels that she's meant to be with or at least save Christian.

To say that I loved Unearthly is an understatement. I totally devoured this book! I can't remember when I last read a book about angels, and I found it fascinating. I love Clara and her mom, and I'm very curious about Clara's younger brother, Jeffery, and what he's hiding! I'm not normally a fan of love triangles, but I can totally see why Clara is torn between Tucker and Christian. They are both swoon-worthy!

Once I devoured this book, I had to ditch my reading plans and get the second book in the series, Hallowed. I just didn't want to stop!

This is my first book by this author, and she totally blew me away! I'm loving this series, and maybe it's a good thing that I waited to read it until all the books were published so that I can binge on it!

Unearthly was the first book I read for the Frightfull Fall Read-a-Thon. I literally started it in the morning and finished it before I went to bed that night. I couldn't put it down down, it's that good. I can't even tell you exactly what I loved so much but it's amazing! There are many books that I love and I would recommend to almost everyone I know who loves to read but there are very few books that I connect to on almost every level.

There are many books that I love and I would recommend to almost everyone I know who loves to read but there are very few books that I connect to on almost every level.

If I could give out Ashley at The Bookish Brunette's crown of epicness award, I would give it to Unearthly, hands down, no questions asked. And now that I have read Hallowed (the sequel) I love it even more!

I love Cynthia Hand's portrayal of the angels. She tells the story of the angles of God who saw how beautiful human women are so they decided to mate with them, thus creating angel-bloods, part-human and part-angel. But some of these full-blooded angels decided to separate themselves from God and as a result their wings turned black. Supposedly, they are unable to feel joy and happiness and they radiate massive amounts of sorrow.

All angel-bloods have a purpose for which they are made which reveals itself to the person sometime around their late teenage years. The beginning of Unearthly finds Clara having these visions of a fire and a certain boy that she thinks she needs to save. They end up moving from California to Wyoming so that she can fulfill her purpose because it's that important!

That's where she meets super-sexy, completely country, the hottest cowboy to ever be written named Tucker. And I love Tucker. I'm a huge fan of Tucker. I actually like all the characters. Even the ones that are supposed to be bad, I understand on one level or another.

Angela is a great character and one of my favorites! I love that Clara was able to meet another angel-blood her age who she can tell her secrets to. The other great thing about Angels is her undying thirst to know as much as she can about what it means to be an angel-blood and their history which is great for Clara, because I think that Clara is too accepting of the fact that her mother tells her almost nothing. Together they're able to learn about Black wings and their purposes.

Even though I love Tucker and he's one of my favorite characters as well, I also love Christian. He always has Clara's best interested at hear even if he can seem like a jerk at times. He really is the epitome of all teenage hottness. Tall, dark, handsome, piercing blue eyes, wealthy, smart and popular. He's pretty much what most teenage girls want in a boyfriend. But unfortunately for Clara, Christian already has a girlfriend and she is a typical "mean girl". I don't want to give anything away but Christian turns out to be someone completely great and not at all what I expected.

I just absolutely love this book! It's is so beautifully written and it's one of those stories that stays with you after you've finished reading it. If you haven't read it yet, GET IT NOW! Hallowed releases in January! ...more

OMG.

So, you know that fluttery, chest-tightening, sick kind of feeling you used to get whenever you saw the guy you were crushing on at school, or read Twilight for the first time (unless it made you actually sick or vomity... no wait, that's still that feeling), or kissed your husband for the first time (well, those of you that have a husband)... Unearthly gave that to me, that I hadn't felt for a book in a long time. Great job, Cynthia Hand! This will be the first book I buy in 2011. ...more

Why four stars? Plain and simple, I don't agree with her choice in boy, and I know there must be some way this all could have gone down differently. Loved the writing, and it is an amazing story, but she picked wrong! Ugh, sorry... whew... calm down Nicole... ahem, so another reason I gave this four stars is I didn't feel like the characters were really developed. I think Angela was and Tucker was, but not even Clara was dimensional enough for me. Yes, there's supposed to be a lot of mystery in ...more
