First I would like to say I've never given a book 1 star, because I think that just the dedication of an author earns him at list 2 stars. The second thing is that I think that's the longest review I've ever wrote. It says something.

This book doesn't deserve rating at all. Because it was a perfect copy of Vampire Academy series. And not in a good way.

I honestly don’t know why I didn’t read this book sooner; I absolutely adore the Lux series, so I should have known that I would fall in love with Ms. Armentrout’s Covenant series as well.

So, I've been owning this book for more than 5 years but I just got around to reading it. Why? I just have too many books. But finally this series is through and I can read it from start to finish.

Alex is a 17 year old girl who has just lost her mother, the only parent she's ever really known. What is different about her is that her mother was a Hematoi, a child of the gods. So Alex is a half-blood, half human and half god descended. Yes, I know, it's a bit to keep up with. Alex's mothe 3.5 STARS

So, I've been owning this book for more than 5 years but I just got around to reading it. Why? I just have too many books. But finally this series is through and I can read it from start to finish.

Alex is a 17 year old girl who has just lost her mother, the only parent she's ever really known. What is different about her is that her mother was a Hematoi, a child of the gods. So Alex is a half-blood, half human and half god descended. Yes, I know, it's a bit to keep up with. Alex's mother has been killed in a daimon attack--Hematoi who have gone rogue.

After Alex's mother dies, she comes back to the academy where she was in training before living three years on the run with her mother. Alex was a promising student at the sentinel training academy, but she will need additional lessons if she's to fall back in with her fellow guards in training. Luckily, pure blood sentinel and sexy badass Aiden St. Delhpi steps up to give her private training. Add all this into returning to a school of kids that don't really like her, multiple guys fighting for her attention, and finding out the truth about what happened to her mother, and Alex has a lot of her plate for one summer.

If it sounds like the paragraph above is making fun of the book, that's because it is, a bit. At 32 years old I am well past the target age range for this series, but it's still a fun and light read for these snowed in days.

Is Alex a protagonist I can root for? Most times. But I don't find anything particularly unique that sets her apart from other female main characters in the supernatural YA genre. She's pretty and she knows it, she's feisty and ready to fight, and she often takes off on her own to do things she's been expressly forbidden to do.

So, let's talk romance in the novel, because of course this is included and of course it is not made easy. Besides the fact that Aiden is Alex's instructor and he's quite a few years older than her, he is Pure blood and she is half-blood. Romantic relationships between the two are a no-go. It's stated in the novel that this is an ancient rule that has been up for debate in their world as of late, so yes, I can see the changes coming in future books of this series.

In addition to Aiden, there's also a very special boy named Seth who for reasons I won't get into is supposed to be Alex's soulmate, for lack of a better term. I can smell the love triangle coming from a mile away, but this is not always a bad thing if done properly.

I will continue the series because I want to see if anything surprising happens, but I could predict the "twists" in this book way before they came to light. Yes, I'm too old to enjoy YA the way I should, but I like dipping into simpler novels from time to time. ...more

I like this book, I do. But I can't help feeling that is just a perfect copy of Vampire Academy Series. VA are my favourite series and this book is like a really good copy of a wonderful painting but you always know it's a fake.

But I was enjoying it. The main story about the demigods, pures, half-bloods and apollyons are a constant of YA novels, as we well know, but it was well explored and well-written.
