I picked this book up based on the hype surrounding the film. I wanted to watch the film but I hate to watch a film adaptation before reading the book it's based on.
I was a little nervous about this one, due to the comparisons with Catcher in the Rye. Luckily, the protagonist, Charlie, is a lot less irritating than Catcher in the Rye's Holden. I have so many memories associated with this book, from when I first read it all those years ago. I found such comfort from within the pages and because of that it's one of those books that even now, I can't look at critically because it means too much, you know?
If I read it today for the first time would it have the same impact on me? I don't know. I would like to hope so, but there's no way to ever know for sure. And I think that's okay. Because a lot of how we feel about a book can be relate ...more

Really didn't like this. I thought all the characters were stereotypical, and the fact that everyone had had some kind of traumatic experience - as well as the traumas that affected them all as a group - was just crazy. I found it boring.
