Ah. This woman has a way about her that just rips my heart out. She makes you care about characters you might loathe the guts of in real life. It's little plot and lots of character development and I thought it was wonderful!

A few weeks ago I watched an interview with J.K Rowling on YouTube and the interviewer said he thought she would have a bit of a rough ride with this novel (he was very right!), and I wanted to see why.
This isn't a book everyone will enjoy, whether you love or loathe it will depend on many things (whether you like to explore less-than-happy worlds within literature & possibly where you sit on the political spectrum amongst others).

J.K. Rowling's writing style is unmistakeable and a large part of the reason I enjoyed this book - though I do wish she hadn't used so many unnecessary brackets as most of which she put in brackets would have fitted normally into the text. As proven though the Harry Potter novels, she is able to give voices to a great number of characters without feeling like any are lost in the shuffle. I don't know how biased I was in reading this; I wanted, so much, to love J. K. Rowling's more mature offering to the literary world - but honestly, it felt a little...macabre. Almost uneccesarily so, explicit to an extent that felt forced. I did like it, but mostly in the last few chapters, when there seemed to be a stronger plot, when the narratives began colliding...even if the ending was a little unresolved.
