Based on what were known as the 'elf children" of the woods and Kate Bernard, the first woman to be elected as a state official in Oklahoma, and the eleventh woman to be elected to a statewide public office in the United States in 1907, who championed for American Indian orphans of that area. While not a lot is said about Bernard in this 544 page large print book, it was research into her life that gave Wingate the material to write this book.
