Y'all! I loved this book. I just finished it up last night and it was so good! At first, I was skeptical of the fangirl aspect at the beginning of the book but it wasn't a deterrent from the bulk of the plot. There were some tragic elements to this story and multiple characters grieving from loss but it still had swoonworthy aspects and heartfelt moments. Let’s get this out of the way: Meet Cute was not at all what I was expecting, but I loved it! I’m a big fan of Hunting, especially her Shacking Up series, and when I heard she had a new standalone book coming out I knew I needed to read it.

The book starts on the first day of law school when Kailyn has a run in with a former teen heartthrob and her childhood crush, Dayton Hughes. Kailyn immediately goes from her normal collected demeanor to adorable squealing fangirl. Despite her fangirl tendencies, Kailyn and Daxton develop a competitive friendship during law school, until he betrays her. Fast forward eight years, Kailyn is a successful trust lawyer and Daxton has just been thrown into the role of guardian to his thirteen year old sister, and desperately needs Kailyns help.⁣⁣

I do question if this fantastic cover properly portrays how emotional this story is. I LOVE the cover, but I kept expecting there to be some of Hunting’s usual comedic one liners and there aren’t really any. This doesn’t change my rating at all, but I can see how people could be a bit disappointed expecting a lighthearted rom-com. ⁣⁣

The cover mentions “a total disaster” so I thought we would have a quirky, scatterbrained heroine like Hazel from Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating. No, Kailyn has got her shit together. She’s a pretty badass lawyer with a love for helping children and families in need. Really her only quirky attribute is her deep love for the show Daxton used to be on. I thought Hunting did a fantastic job of showing Daxton’s struggles to transition from a brother to a parental role.⁣⁣

Meet Cute was a 5 star read for me. I highly recommend putting this one on your list if you love contemporary romance with a little bit of family drama.

Helena Hunting is one of those auto buy authors for me after reading this one. This book was so cute. It took me a few chapters to get into it but once I did, I didn’t want to put it down! I fell in love with Kailyn. I love that she was strong, great at her job and a wonderful role model. I also fell in love with Emme, Daxton’s sister. She is so sweet and thoughtful. I love that Daxton was a child actor and Kailyn was a total fangirl over his show. It added an extra flair to the story. This is a ...more

Last night I decided to start Meet Cute by @helenahunting, joke was on me because once I started I couldn’t put it down until I finished it at 4 this morning! It was a nice distraction from the knee pain I was having post surgery and it made waking up today to this dreary weather not so bad. This book was adorable, steamy, fun, and touching. There was laughter and tears. I would recommend this book to anyone! It was great!!

This was my first Helena Hunting title, and it certainly won't be my last! I was expecting a feel-good romcom type of story, and I was actually quite surprised and pleased at the emotional depth presented with the storyline revolving around Dax and his younger sister - it felt very real and, while I've never been in that situation before, completely relatable.

I received an early sneak peek of this book from Netgalley and I was instantly hooked. Waiting for this book's release was absolute torture and thankfully it did not disappoint. Kailyn is a quirky, intelligent female lead who happens to have a slight obsession with Dax's old TV show and her fangirl moments made me lol. The banter between the two was electric and you could just feel the sexual tension (there are some sexy bits and they don't disappoint😉). Part of Dax's appeal is the way he steps up for his sister even though he's grieving too. Honestly, who wouldn't love him? This romcom may start out as a slow burn, but it makes up for lost time at the end. I laughed, I cried, and it left me smiling. I read this book in one sitting and wouldn't hesitate recommend it! Adorable new book by Helena Hunting! I loved her characters Kailyn and Daxton.

1) The storyline beyond the romance was spot on. It was nice to have a secondary storyline to focus on instead of your typical romance. You rooted for Daxton to keep his sister Emme. You rooted for Kailyn to succeed in her job and win Daxton.

2) Although this book isn't as steamy as Hunting's last book The Good luck Charm I really enjoyed the tension between the two main characters and love that the banter wasn't alway ...more

I really liked this super sweet and quick read. The first ten pages were completely reminiscent of the most embarrassing meet cute you can think of from a romantic comedy movie! After the meet cute, the story takes off and takes a somewhat somber tone while dealing with parental death and a custody battle. Even with that subject matter, the story still seems to maintain a sweetness to it. It was less steamy and more rom-com than the author's previous works, but I still enjoyed it! ...more
