3.5 stars - I did enjoy this book, but I felt like it fell a little flat for me in a few spots. It was very heavy on the enemy portion of enemies to lovers (which is usually one of my favorite tropes!). Coldhearted Boss from @authorrsgrey follows Taylor and Ethan. Taylor is busting her butt trying to make ends meet to help support her Mom while she is in school and pay for her sister’s expensive asthma medication. One night at a bar, while down on her luck she eyes a stranger. Instant chemistry flares between them and they end up heavily making out in the bar bathroom. During their hookup, Taylor notices the man’s wallet and takes it for a split second thinking the cash inside could really chan Coldhearted Boss from @authorrsgrey follows Taylor and Ethan. She breaks up their hookup and after some self-reflection returns the wallet to the bartender untouched.

When a job opportunity arises in town to work on a construction site, Taylor jumps at the chance to make some real money for her family. Despite having no experience, she somehow scores a role on the construction site as an assistant to the boss. The boss just happens to be her bathroom hookup Ethan and he isn’t amused. All Ethan knows is that when he got his wallet back it was missing cash and he’s going to make her pay for that. In order to keep his eyes on Taylor, he manipulates the sleeping arrangements. Instead of Taylor sharing a bunk with all the construction guys she ends up sharing the Rose cabin with Ethan. In close quarters their hatred of one another intensifies with their passionate memory far FAR away. Can they figure out a way to just be civil before the building tension threatens to explode into something much more dangerous…?

Ok. Enemies to lovers is ALWAYS my favorite. I just love when two characters despise each other and then its just goes 💥These two REALLY hated each other. Well…Ethan really hated her (except we know he didn’t) but he was a REAL dick for most of the book. I live for the sarcastic quips, the pretending that neither is affecting the other, watching the hatred burn into desire, all of it.
This was my first R.S. Grey and certainly won’t be my last. This one is definitely a slow burn so ladies..PATIENCE! I enjoyed it and I can’t wait for our #freaksbetweenthebooksheets to discuss it at the end of the month with @mamajustwantstoread and I! // ☕️☕️☕️☕️ ...more

“But honestly…DIMPLES. I saw them! Mr. I’d-rather-die-than-smile-in-your-vicinity has dimples! If that’s not injustice, I don’t know what is.” .

That’s just one of the quotes that literally made me laugh out loud in this book. Taylor and Ethan meet in a bar & what was thought to be a one night stand turns into “I’m gonna steal your wallet so I can help my family” night but then she doesn’t and returns it. Review
As always, I want to start with what I loved. Taylor’s characterization was my favorite. I grew up in a very similar situation to Taylor, and my heart just went out to her. I loved how determined and driven she was. If you want a strong willed, fierce heroine – look no further than Taylor. Her character was the strongest part of this book for me. Taylor definitely makes the exclusive list of my top heroines from R.S. Grey.

I also gotta give Coldhearted Boss it’s props because this one really delivers on enemies-to-lovers and slow-burn romance. I mean this is ~SLOW~ burn (think Mariana Zapata slow-burn.) The banter was great for enemies-to-lovers, and the tension between Taylor and Ethan was amazing.

The only downfall for me is that they were enemies for far too long. I felt like I was at the 80% mark, and they were still enemies! I wanted to see more of them emotionally connecting/learning more about each other. I loved the last 10% of the book and wish there was more to read after they got together. After I hit the 60-70% mark, I was getting impatient. Our leads still hadn’t gotten vulnerable with each other. There was still no crack in the hate/enemies facade. I live for the thawing portion of the enemies-to-lovers trope. I love seeing their hatred break down and slowly turn into love. I loved the enemies portion, but part of the fun of enemies-to-lovers is the lovers part. I needed a better balance.

Overall, I enjoyed Coldhearted Boss. I went back and forth between a 3/4 star rating, and finally decided on 3 stars. If there was more time spent on the romance, this would easily be a 4/5 star read.

This was my first book by this author and, sadly, it just fell flat. There was a promising start in the opening chapters. Unfortunately, 10% through 70% was just a whole lot of two people hating and being mean to each other. There was no banter. No sexual tension. They were just awful to each other, particularly the wealthy, male boss. Then, on a dime, sex and googly eyes. I don’t buy it.

This is only my second Grey novel and it will not be my last. I thoroughly enjoyed this story. The slow burn, enemies to lovers, work romance? Favourite tropes of mine.
I loved Ethan. He was wealthy but he worked hard for it, sometimes too hard. He didn't date much and when he did, he was preoccupied with work.
Taylor, oh Taylor. "Trailer Trash" trying to get out of the rut she's been in her whole life, doing everything she can for her mother and sister.

Strong female lead...check! Hot construction workers...check! Summery setting in the woods...check! Slow burn romance with witty banter...check! R.S. Grey did it again with her newest Coldhearted Boss. I tore through this book in one afternoon and I loved it. Such a unique premise and I adored Taylor & Ethan. Read this one now!

Too drama in the first part, the hero being way too much of a jerk for too long. Too little banter, although at halfway point I was laughing for real, and the end was way too rushed!
