I DNFd this. I was shocked because I honestly love a lot of the books Christina Lauren writes, but this was not it. I felt like the writing was so stiff and absolutely felt zero chemistry between the leads. Also, they are thirty and keep complaining they are so old and outdated. I’m only 25, but I know a lot of people who are in their thirties...thirty isn’t old lol. Their lack of awareness of technology was bizarre. Also not really a fan of the whole catfish plot.

Edited to add: I guess I am still annoyed about this book (lol). I just genuinely cannot believe some of the dialogue. Genuinely baffled that they say they are thirty and are completely out of touch with any dating apps, any “dating lingo” aka ghosting, one night stand, etc. and this is all so unbelievable to me?

The main female lead is 29 and yet is absolutely so closed off emotionally that she doesn’t tell her best friend (the male lead) anything about her life? I understand being hard to open up, but I am so over the closed off trope especially when we are adults.

Also there was such a weird vibe with the friend group. They genuinely made academia feel like some bizarre club instead of just like a job. Lol. And this is coming from someone with a graduate degree.

Also (and this isn’t a spoiler because it’s on the back of the book and in the synopsis) but the leads have sex and it’s basically closed door (which annoyed me but this is a personal preference not a criticism of the book lol) and both the characters were like it was fun but meh. I felt like they were both so unaffected and genuinely didn’t seem that moved by it?

Because if the main characters weren’t really affected by the one night stand...why have it in the book at all? Genuinely I felt like we could have skipped that entire part and went straight to the dating apps and the book would hardly have changed at all.

Ok I am done ranting about this. Not everyone will love a book and that’s ok! If you loved this one, I respect you and I get it. I just wanted to include this perspective because I feel like everyone loved this book but me! ...more

I’m a sucker for good friends to lovers book. This story is told in dual perspectives. Millie, a professor, is a strong independent woman. She is also very closed off when it come to sharing about herself. Her best friends are 4 guy co-workers. They all decide they need to take a date to create dating profiles and Millie ends up matching with Reid, her best friend. He unknowingly starts talking to her via dating app but they both end up liking each other.

Omg all the feels. I was laughing, crying, and yelling at the characters. It was so damn good! I did not want this to end!! It was real life situations and real life problems.
