[close] This book is a sequel to ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’, and, like its predecessor, is best suited for Key Stage 1 pupils. This time, we hear the stories of the many crayons that Duncan has left behind or generally neglected over the years – each sends him a postcard (some of them several) detailing their plight. In the end, Duncan feels rather bad for them – they won’t even fit in his crayon box, as they’re so neglected – so builds a new crayon house.

This book, along with ‘Meerkat Mail’, would be great for introducing the genre of postcards, including the postcard format itself, and placing yourself in the shoes of an abandoned crayon. This could tie into PSHE. It’s also just a really nice looking book – the glow-in-the-dark pages are particularly impressive. It’s fiction, but it’s probably rather different to a lot of the fiction books that children are familiar with, so there can be discussions on that front.
