Arlo loves reading but after he drops a book on the Mayor’s head, the Mayor bans and destroys all books, saying that they are dangerous. With no books left, the theatres close with no plays to act and restaurants only serve dry cereal, as there are no recipe books. Arlo begins to write his own stories, causing the book tree to grow.
This book is about the power of words and the importance of books. It could be used as a base for children to write their own stories, to help the book tree grow and classes could make their own book full of their stories. Classes could also discuss how their lives would change if there were no books.
