Pure is an engaging and exciting post-apocalyptic saga. The main characters are young enough that this could have been categorized as a young adult novel. First we have Pressia who is a deep thinking risk taking sixteen year old girl who has lived with the outcome of the Detonations that went off when she was a little girl. This post-apocalyptic dystopian tale starts out with almost-16-year-old Pressia. Her life was changed forever during the Detonations, when everyone who was not in the Dome was either killed or fused with whatever they happened to be touching, either plant, animal, or object. The young Pressia escaped with a few scars and her doll fused to her hand. This is a bit of a stretch, but interesting setup if you can ignore the sheer unlikeliness of it all. After the Detonations, this is the message sent to the surviving people who were outside the Dome. I'm not usually super into futuristic, sci-fi, especially armegeddon-type stories. However, this book had fantastic characters which are well drawn and complex. I found myself caught up in the adventure more because I cared about what happened to them than to find out what happens. I might read the next book when it comes out, or listen to it. ...more
