The title refers to the pivotal day in American History when John F. Kennedy was shot and killed. Jake Epping, a 35 year old school teacher living in present day Maine, discovers a way to go back in time and change the past. In this alternate rendering of history, King presents a world where the Kennedy presidency was uninterrupted, and lays out the consequences of changing past events -- even when the actions are well-intentioned.
