What Members Thought
I loved this and wanted more. You got only a snippet of each of the family members and I craved more of their lives. This book is beautiful, brilliant and heartbreaking.
I don't know why it took me song long to read this but it was beautiful. Such a great depth of looking into history and so many great characters. I will be thinking about this one for a long time.

Powerful novel spanning centuries in one family, crossing oceans and generations. A statement on the slave trade in Africa and the history of race in America. Each branch on the family tree is illustrated with one vignette, a glimpse at how life has changed and how much has been lost forever. An amazing book to teach hundreds of years of history in a short span of pages.
I love epic sagas. This does not disappoint. From the Gold Coast of Africa and all its characters to Stanford in modern times. Love this story.
