Khaled Hosseini knows how to tell a story. The way that he weaves a story is mesmerizing, and this book is no exception. The opening parable resonates throughout each of the interconnecting chapters that make up the novel.
Not just a story about siblings (despite what the blurb says), it's the story of relationships. Between a brother and sister; a servant and his boss; a mother and a daughter. Like his other novels, Afghanistan serves as the over-arching backdrop, but it is not a novel about the ...more

Finished Khaled Hosseini's book "And the Mountains Echoed". All I can say is EXCELLENT BOOK!!
This is the 2nd book I have read by this author and he is worth the wait I had to endure to get the book on my "read-list" at the library. Such vivid detail and descriptions in his storytelling that I could see and feel what he wrote about.
This book was a tear jerk-er and made me at time cheer for the people in the book.
Would I recommend it to others: yes. Would I read it again: yes! ...more

Not as powerful as his earlier works. This one was too broad in scope with too many threads, not all of which tie in together at the end or are necessary. Still the writing is beautiful and lyrical and his characaters remain with you afterwards, especially the bohemian woman poet Nila Wahdati who represents Hosseini's tribute to the tradition of woman poets in Afganistan. The plot at times seems contrived. This book would have benefited from a good edit.
