Upon my sister’s insistence, I finally gave this book a try. When I first started it, I honestly thought to myself, what’s so great about this it?? I don’t get it…How is it different from the millions of other Afghan stories out there? I may not completely have an answer to that question, but I know for sure that by the end of the novel, this book had nestled deeply into my heart. Khaled Hosseini’s novel A Thousand Splendid Suns is one of the most infuriating, yet heart-touching books I have ever read. Hosseini is like a contemporary Ernest Hemingway. He writes in brutal short strokes and creates images that you cannot even comprehend....This is not the kind of novel that can be picked up and read as a time pass on a rainy day.
