This book is the embodiment of the coming of age genre. Absolutely beautiful and depressingly haunting. I can't even fathom how close to home this novel would have hit me, had I read it during my early adolescence. I'd like to believe that I'm past my "angsty cynic" phase, but Holden still managed to reach under my skin and reveal remnants of the teenager I used to be, throughout the novel. One thing he and I definitely do have in common, though, is that we both aim to be "catchers in the field ...more
