This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. I enjoyed it for the most part. I thought most of the characters were interesting, particularly Tarrant and Vryce. Unfortunately, the exception is Chaini who's just kind of there. Vryce and Chaini flirt a bit and somehow that's sort of kind of maybe love? The person he's attracted to isn't there for very long and I didn't feel like their connection was particularly strong in the first place.

It took most of the book to actually get the characters into position, and then the ending blasted everyone out of their seats (in a good way). The premise of the story, a world which allows power to emerge from shifts in nature, earthquakes usually, and coalesce into fears plucked from the minds of the new colonists, was amazing. This was book one of a trilogy and I think there is great potential for the next two. I hope there is more action, though.
