What Members Thought

Several years ago, there was a devastating war between Humans and The Others (magical creatures such as vampires, werewolves and demons). The war, nicknamed the 'voodoo wars', left the world riddled with magical 'bad spots', where black magic thrives, and everything is wrong. There is an uneasy tension left behind, the vampires may have been defeated, but they're clearly gaining power again, many recent suspected vampire kils leads to a nervous populace. The SOF (Special Other Forces), is a sort

Sunshine is about vampires. And magic. And cinnamon rolls.
I really really wanted to LOVE this book. In the end, I just liked it.
The pluses (and there's a lot)
1)Sunshine is a really strong female character. Even when she's not physically strong she knows what she needs to do. She's true to herself but she also pushes herself to go beyond what she's used to doing. She stays pretty "real" and likeable/relateable.

This is my favorite book. I'm rereading because 'tis the season for comfort reads. I listened to a sample of the audiobook - the first person narrative through this book is intense and might have been a truly epic audio performance. Sadly, I can't stand the personification of Sunshine from the narrator. She completely misses the dry humor in Sunshine's asides and makes S sound kind of back-woodsy in ways that there is no textual support for. I didn't expect to be thrilled with the audio book bec
