Even if I am not a big fan of short-stories, I did like this book since Kundera has always a poignant style of writing.

4.5 stars. This novel had my attention early on with its simple but stark depictions of life under authoritarian rule, which makes sense as Kundera lived through the era when Czechoslovakia fell under USSR's communist rule. Then the book takes off like a spinning wheel of fortune. Characters change abruptly from section to section. Most characters are fictional, but then Kundera himself steps in speaking as himself discussing about the history of Prague, his strategy in how has arranged his book
