Read as part of 1,000 Books to Read Before You Die. Whimsical, but wonder if it might be disturbing for small children with the shooting of main character's mother and poisoning of the King. ...more

I remember this little elephant fondly. I didn't remember the ending so well, so it was a fun read to learn again what happened after his adventures in the city. ...more

I’m in a reading challenge, otherwise I would never touch this book. I hated it. It’s weird, colonialism aside. The elephant wearing clothes and driving a car is the only fun part. Come for the animal death, stay for the odd cousin royal wedding.
