Divide & Conquer

This is one of my favorite series in any genre. Each one is better than the last, and by book three all random mid-scene--hell, mid-paragraph--POV changes were gone. The books are tighter, cleaner, with more action, romance, danger, wit and friendship as they go on. This one isn't really a mystery, more just a romantic thriller, but that's fine for me. That's the part I love.

While reading this book I laughed out loud several times, especially during the texting scene. I also act Divide & Conquer

While reading this book I laughed out loud several times, especially during the texting scene. I also actually shed a few tears, like during the dancing, which was the most beautiful and romantic scene I can remember reading. And it was so subtle...

This was definitely my favorite in the series so far. Effing ending though ends on a cliffhanger. The story is complete; the cliffhanger is more an tease to make you read the next book immediately. I read Fish&Chips the day before and I did not want to read a third so soon. I wanted to savor them!

I was actually was only mad at Ty once twice in this book and it was in two scenes in a row. Usually I find several reasons to get mad at him but in this and actually the third book as well, he's damn near Mr. Perfect. I actually began thinking that Ty doesn't really even seem like the same person as the first book. This Ty is happy and sweet and kind and gentle and vulnerable and angry only when appropriate.

I loved Zane, better than Ty even, in the first two books. By the end of the third he was on my shit list, although his deciding to get help made up for most of it. Throughout most of this I was just mildly irritated because for the most part he was so vulnerable and still strong it broke my heart. He was so great except that he was so out of touch with his emotions I wanted to punch him sometimes. Fortunately Ty is always there to do that for me. :) One of my favorite lines from the book was:

"...We wouldn't mind getting to know Ty's partner, especially since he's gone this long without trading you in or hitting you."
Zane smiled for the first time since the guys had come in. “Well, you're half right.”

Seriously, you have to read the texting scene. You can find it at the end of Fish & Chips if you have it. The excerpt included there is almost exactly the same as in the book. (I was relieved to find they understandably renamed "White Collar Guy" to "Financial Crimes Guy"--the character was icky and just didn't fit with the FBI hotties in White Collar, let alone Nick, **swoon**, all copyright issues aside.)

So go read this, but be sure to read the others first. ...more

Just when I thought it couldn't get any better, it was ratcheted up, put on high octane and blew my mind. Damn, but this is pure crack. It grabs you like a dog with a bone, won't let you go for nothing. I wonder how I had the strength to put it down, so I could go on with my life. I wanted nothing more then to stay right there with Ty and Zane till all was spent.

They’re hip-deep in trouble, trying to track down bombers and bank robbers in the dark with very few clues, and the only way to reach the light at the end of the tunnel together requires Ty and Zane to close their eyes and trust each other to the fiery end.

My Thoughts:

My love for this series only continues to grow. It's impossible not to like it and I friggin' ADORE it. I haven't rooted this hard for one couple in a while. I seriously love Ty and Zane and want them to be happy, but they are taking their sweet time about it. Especially Zane. By the end, though, he gets his act together. Good thing, too because Ty was at the end of his rope. He would have waited forever, but too much shit was happening at once and it damn near tore him apart. I was happy when Zane finally stepped up. I felt proud of him. He's gotta do better by Ty and I hope he continues to recognize what he has and doesn't let go.

I felt incredibly proud of Ty for coming out to his friends. And I knew, just knew that Ty's friend Nick felt more for Ty than just friendship when he started having jealousy pangs when he saw how well Ty and Zane worked together when they all went out to eat. And then that kiss! It was a good kiss.... But I'm glad Ty is loyal. Even if that kiss did confuse him. He was really going through it, then. One of his friends completely rejected him, Nick was downing Zane for not telling Ty he loves him and then confesses that he loves him. Too much was just crashing on Ty's shoulders and in conjunction with Zane's disability, the case where they had no leads and just everything, he started freaking out. And he had to cut and run. That then freaked me out and of course I had to jump right into book 5 to find out what was going on.

There was a lot of coming to grips with things this time around and I think some really good progress was made. Yeah, Ty and Zane fought. That's what they do. Not to mention a lot of extremely hot sex. That scene against the front door of Zane's place? Fucking amazing. And Zane finally goes down on Ty. Beautiful.

Oh, notes: so finally the mutual love is out of the bag, and Ty came out to his military buddies as well. Incidentally today is the 6 year anniversary of marriage equality passing in the US, so 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳

WOW. I think I need to re-read it (oh, what a hardship ;) before I can write a really comprehensive review; I raced through it so quickly last night, staying up late to finish it. But I loved it, of course. I think it might even be the best book in the series so far.

I just can't get enough of Ty And Zane. In Divide & Conquor they are struggling with their feelings for each other. Of course one gets hurt, one nearly goes nuts again, but together they are perfection in my book - well, not MY book but this book... Oh hell, you know what I mean. Sorry, but the story line in this one was rubbish. And Ty and Zane behaved like silly teenagers.

I liked the Stevie Wonder line though. Which kind of proves my point about the immaturity of these characters.
