THE. BEST. ONE. YET.

Everything from Evenfall and all the pain of Afterimage was worth it to get to this point. I laughed, I ugly cried, and I screamed in frustration. The story moved at a quicker pace this time, and the character development was AMAZING. I know these ~~characters~~ people now. The plot is turning me into some type of conspiracy theorist and I love that I'm so unsure of what's going to happen.

I think I need treatment for my new bipolar disorder now, but I have no regrets!

Series books are hard to try and write some type of review without giving much away. It's also difficult because anything that you might say is usually related to the past books in the series. So, I'm going to make this one short as well.

Oh the tangle web we weave. Everyone is still a mess. If they weren't a mess before, they are now. Some pull their heads out of their asses just to have some other mess happen and are right back in to emotional turmoil.

His jaw clenched and unclenched and his long black eyelashes lowered over his impossibly vivid green eyes that once again traveled along the length of Carhart.

Emilio flinched away from the words and he looked up briefly. His lips were parted slightly, his round eyes wide and slightly unfocused. He looked distraught, confused, and slightly frightened. Carhart didn't think he'd ever seen so much raw emotion on the other man's face. The other man's mood swings were going faster and more dramatically than ever.

It was Emilio's voice, snarling at Carhart, who had been the one to open the door.

I cannot give this series enough praise, it is truly one of the best, most instnse reading I have experienced. This part was a real roller coaster of emotions, down up down. Ugh and that ending, I just feel sick with nerves. But o love every minute of this! Hsin + Byod get hotter through the book. Emilio who would have thought but I love him too. On to Fade.

My Thoughts:

This one is a bit different from the first book. There are a variety of short stories that take place after the events of book 2 told from the POVs of different characters. Notably, these are Sin, Boyd, Carhart and Kassian. Some of these stories were awesome and sexy. Others were insanely emotionally painful.

In the beginning of this book, Sin and Boyd are still not back together and Sin is pissed about Boyd's sexcapades with Kassian. Boyd still wants to be Sin's friend, but things ar My Thoughts:

In the beginning of this book, Sin and Boyd are still not back together and Sin is pissed about Boyd's sexcapades with Kassian. Boyd still wants to be Sin's friend, but things are awkward between them sometimes. So Ryan gets the brilliant idea in enlisting Boyd's help to get Sin into the dating game. That shit hurt to read. Whether Boyd was sleeping with Kassian or not, it boggled my mind that Ryan thought getting Boyd to think of people Sin could start fucking would be an okay thing. Don't get me wrong, Sin had every right to try to move on now that he was feeling so much more mentally stable, but asking one ex-boyfriend to think up potential lovers for the other? So wrong. I tried not to be mad at Ryan over that because his heart was in the right place, but seriously?! Sin did manage to hit it off with someone, though. Much to Boyd's dismay. But he kept quiet about it. Kassian knew he was jealous, but Boyd was determined to not get in the way of Sin's happiness if there really was someone out there better from Sin than he was. Little did he know, Sin would have rather been with Boyd.

The two of them still have some miscommunications here and that hurt to read. They were longing for each other and they just wouldn't come out and SAY it. Drove me nuts, but they did finally get past that and got to where they needed to be. It was such a happy thing and they were having a good fucking time. Until it's revealed that Boyd has to go on his first ever solo/valentine mission. It didn't end with them fighting, thank goodness, but now more than ever-they want out. I want that for them, but I don't see how it's possible at all.

In the meantime, we get some POVs from Kassian. Some, while he and Boyd are still doing the casual thing and some after that. Kassian really starts to deteriorate over this book. He and Sin finally seem to come to some kind of an understanding, though. It takes one hell of a knockdown-dragout for it, though. And then Sin basically assassinates Kassian's character. Kassian admits that there was some merit to what Sin had to say at least. After that, they kind of bicker like siblings. Kassian's alcohol abuse gets worse, too. And it seems that he wants someone to love him. But he's afraid of that. Here's hoping he picks himself up in the future.

The really dramatic POVs actually were Carhart's. Emilio basically comes in and hurricanes up the man's life. And Carhart lets him. Until he discovers something that becomes the last straw. I could see it from both of their sides. Emilio has an obsession. A rather unhealthy one. That obsession's name is Zachary Carhart. Emilio loves Carhart. I really believes he does. The thing is, Emilio is such a sociopath that he would tear Zach's entire world down just so he could have him to himself. There are times where Carhart seems too harsh on Emilio and I wanted him to quit hurting the man's feelings, but Emilio always lashes out so much worse. I like Emilio. He isn't bad all the time. But he is not the best person where Zach is concerned. In some ways, Zach and Emilio's relationship is way worse than Sin and Boyd's ever was.

I am loving this series even though it puts me through one hell of a wringer. Emotional, it scares me, but it can also make me smile and laugh. These books are long as fuck, but sooooo worth it. Now I'm jumping right into the last one because I must KNOW. ...more

After Afterimage, The Interludes was a refreshing change. It was well-paced, with the angst dialed down, and the action dialed up. Though what was happening in the last few segments probably doesn't bode well for Fade...

I am speechless. This is so brilliant, awesome, hot, plotty, suspenseful... just wow. I just finished and my brain is fried, I am in awe at how complex the characters and the plot has turned out to be. I love the interactions, the interesting characters, the many interesting, deep, and well developed secondary characters (even characters like Owen, Jeffery, Blair, and Archer who mostly appear as supporting characters have a fully developed personality and back story, even if we onl rating: 5.25/5

And finally, finally Boyd did not annoy the hell out of me. I actually liked him and his annoying moments were few and far in between. And Hsin, just amazing as always, his development and characterization are perfect.

And Carhart, WOW.

Emilio, oh f*ck, just WOW squared. One of my all time favorite characters, with levels upon levels of complexity.

And others: Kassian, damn, I was not expecting that much development with him. Harriet, love her. Ryan, so glad he was back in this one, he is just so adorable but I'm wishing for even deeper development of his character.

A scattered collection of stories from various POVs but tied in together, intertwined within the bigger picture. The complex plot twists and turns and when you think something is going on, it completely takes you in another direction. The missions are awesome, the snippets of daily life, the mundane was a perfect touch are just perfect. And the funny moments were balanced with the seriousness, the action, the romance, the sexiness, the intrigue, the mystery... the realism of it was staggering.

And the Hsin and Boyd relationship... so well developed, so different and deep and just on a completely different level. So realistic. Honest and gritty and flawed.

And that one super hot sex scene in the woods. Yup, that one. Probably the best written sex scene I've read. *swoons*

The only negatives I can say is that it needs a little editing, it is still a bit long winded, and has that eyebrow thing again where everyone expresses themselves with their eyebrows. But really, it wasn't much and compared to the previous novels in the series and due to the magnificence of the story it just fades into a non-issue.

Soooooooo, I love Carhart and Emilio's story. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it. I think a ton of this could once again be cut down and out. I liked Ivan fine. Kassian is a hot mess. And, as much as I love Boyd and am OBSESSED with Sin I think this sums up my feelings about their relationship.
