Talk about a punch in the gut! This short, elegant story of grief and loss, beautifully articulated, caught me by surprise. I read the final paragraph through a veil of tears. Most highly recommended.

This is a bittersweet story of one man's loss and how he's overwhelmed in his grief. It's beautifully written, clean and not melodramatic. It's a reminder that those we lose live on in our hearts. In my opinion, the story is just the right length. To lengthen it would be to take the focus away from the love and loss experienced by the main character. It's perfect as it is. ...more

I find it difficult to comment upon this deeply moving story without imparting spoilers. Suffice to say it concerns the strong bond between a father and his teenage daughter.

The story is short, but packs a punch that left me feeling distraught. After reading this poignant tale, I am sorely reminded that we never stop worrying about our offspring and just how fragile life really is.

An excellent little piece, well done David Rose.

This very short story proves a good writer doesn’t need a lot of words to craft a powerful work. Readers who believe you need thousands upon thousands of words to be ‘invested’ in a character should try reading this emotional vignette. David Rose at his writing best.
