Beautiful--absolutely beautiful--is the best way I can describe Mockingbird. Never have I ever read a book like it, and at the same time, never have I been so moved.
Perhaps I enjoyed the experience so much because it was told through the lens of a fifth grader suffering from Aspergers. Thrughout the whole novel, I could not help but feel from her. She lost the one person who truly understood her, and though she struggles, her persistence is admirable. She tries to get people, she tries to get l ...more

Novel #9: I really enjoyed this book because of the realist character personification--Erskine has a wonderful way of drawing the reader into the world of a young girl struggling with Asperger's. She does a beautiful job of taking us through the emotional journey of Caitlin and demonstrates true character development as she searches for closure. There are a lot of issues dealt with in this book--dealing with tragedy, grief, loss, school, making friends, etc. and it was very interesting and refre

This book was incredibly heartbreaking at times and made me really feel for Caitlin. I did not know what to expect when I started to read but that was definitely not it. The book is told from the perspective of a young girl with Aspergers and her character is written beautifully. It was hard at the beginning to understand some of the phrases, but it opens your mind and allows you to be in the shoes of someone who has a completely different outlook on life and that was my favorite part of the boo

I’m studying to be a special education teacher and I’m especially interested in autism and how it affects the mind. When I heard Mockingbird’s main character was autistic, I knew I wanted to read the book. I was a full time caretaker of a 7 year old boy with autism so I know how the world doesn’t understand children that are autistic. It was really interesting to see how a child with autism takes in differences that they have with everyone and to see how Caitlin understands things. I especially

As with many books, I'm always often bored in the beginning. For what I thought I was bored with, I finished this book in 2 days. After completing this book I realized I was not bored with the book, but this style was just something I am not familiar with as I typically read books of fantasy, sci fi, and with action. This books moral of the story and the characters role makes really think about life and how it could be in somebody else's position. It also teaches you a little about Asperger synd

Absolutely heartbreaking. I loved Mockingbird because it allowed me to experience things in a different way than I normally would. I have no idea what it is like to have Asperger's, but this book made me truly understand the differences and difficulties that accompany this disability. Caitlin has such a beautiful and strong voice and there were so many times that I wanted to crawl into the pages and give her a hug. (Of course I wouldn't have done this though because of her Personal Space.) This

I loved this book! This is up there with Wonder for me. I loved that I could step into a childs mind and see the struggles they face. I thought this was beautifully written and I felt the emotions of the family and Caitlyn.
I think this would be a great book for teachers of all levels to read. I am still proccessing everything from this book and figuring out how I want to write this book review. But I loved it!
Easy read. Must read. Really enjoyed it!
