The Bear and the Nightingale is an unexpected book. First, it has a world of its own. Second, its' unpredictably predictable.
However, sometimes it gets hard to read it. Especially if you are not familiar with some worlds. I think the author didn't explain well how this world works. I also felt that at the beginning of the book it is a bit boring.

3.5 stars. I started off very interested in this book, was almost bored to tears in the middle of it, and loved the story by the end. So, it was a rough ride.
A little disclaimer here: I really don't like Magical Realism, and that's what this is until about 60% of it. I don't enjoy how much of the stories are usually focused on the very mundane; and I really hate how most Magical Realism stories portray the "regular" world as a cruel and senseless one, and the "magical" world as a beautiful, nat ...more
