This book took me some time to get into. I think it was a combination of stupid vernacular and lack of character development. You want explanations? You won't get them here. The author tries overly hard to keep you as in the dark about what is happening in the Glade as Thomas. Drop me in a place where I have no clue who I am, where I am, or why I am there, and you had better believe I would be demanding answers. Not so with Thomas. I really enjoyed this book. It was an instance of, "I need to stay up to see what happens!" situation, which in light of the recent book "swamps" I've been (voluntarily) wading through (I'm looking at you Wither and especially you, Halo) Maze Runner was a completely refreshing change.

I loved that not all the information was dumped at the beginning, that we were still finding out new things near the end.

I was caught by the premise and the mystery of the story, but boy - did I have to work at getting through the dialog, especially in the first 2/3rds of the book. Awkward and forced, Thomas' interactions with other characters are very rough draft and shallow. Things do start to smooth out towards the end of the book, and the premise stays intriguing,

Good read

if you are looking for on the edge of your couch sort of thing this delivers. quick read with lots to ponder and dig deeper.
