The writing sucked me into this book pretty quickly and I loved the storyline of Karou and her family with Brimstone. The whole world of chimaera and angel history and how each side sees it was so interesting and I loved learning all of that. I loved Karou’s fierce devotion to her family. Zuzana was a really fun character for some comic relief and also loyalty to Karou.

At first I didn’t love Akiva as he comes out of nowhere and I felt the initial interest from both was extremely insta-loveike a The writing sucked me into this book pretty quickly and I loved the storyline of Karou and her family with Brimstone. At first I didn’t love Akiva as he comes out of nowhere and I felt the initial interest from both was extremely insta-loveike a page after being to the death enemies...which turned me completely off to it. So there were about 5-7 chapters in there where I got bored and did lots of eye rolling about how this was unnecessary and irritating. Then we finally got back to more action and storyline, and also learned more of why this connection was there at all. Once I learned all of that it made sense and made it a little less cringe worthy. It really just seems Akiva is prone to instalove. That said I was 100% there for the Madrigal backstory and could not get enough of that. I was less invested in Akiva with Karou for sure but I’m hoping maybe the twists and connections we learned help me in the next book? We’ll see. (view spoiler)
But. More importantly. I’M DESTROYED. Heartbroken with that ending. I don’t know how anything can go forward with that level of betrayal and now with the truth fully known by all, such devastation and heartbreak for everyone involved :/. (view spoiler). ...more
