Loved this book. I have a soft spot for detective stories featuring gruff, rough around the edges but oh so astute big detectives. Comoron Strike isn't as wise-cracking as Spenser or Patrick Kenzie but he's just as smart and observant.
I really like how this book played out. How the clues slowly fell into place. How we slowly got to know more about Comoron's back story as we learned about Lula's final days.
Can't wait to read the next one.

I can see the similarities enough with the Harry Potter series that it made sense to me, but if I didn't know ahead of time, it wouldn't have necessarily been the easiest connection to make.
A good book to listen to with sufficient plot driving the story that it was pleasant to tune out to listen to. Also, a bit of a twist ending. Very pleasantly surprised and made the whole experience that much more enjoyable. ...more
