James Herriot describes his day-to-day life as a newly-graduated veterinarian in Yorkshire, England during the 1930s. This is during a time when science and medicine were evolving in the field and not quite yet trusted by the local farmers.

He talks of his cases while treating everything from the smallest dog to large horses and everything in between. During this time we get to meet many of the locals. The book is a charming reflection of life in the past.

This book isn't for the faint of heart. ...more
