When I finished the first chapter of this book, I double checked the page length on my e-reader because I didn't see how what I read, although well-written and interesting, would blossom into a full book. Don't take this to mean that it was difficult to read beyond the beginning. It wasn't. I just didn't realize how what seemed to be a self-contained article could be the basis for 240 more pages.

For a novel that should have made me sad, it didn’t move me at all. Perhaps the author might not have been the best narrator. I enjoyed the descriptions of food and learning more about the complexities of her parents’ relationship than anything else.
