What Members Thought

Bruin Mccon
This is a locked room suspense novel that reminds me of a recent Ruth Ware book, except this is a family reunion of killers. Ernest is a mystery novel formula book writer. These are the seven rules of mysteries, etc. So, his accounting of a family reunion gone very deadly is a bit navel gaze-y, but it works as a plot device too. There are many different storylines knit together in this book, and all manage to be at least a little humorous. This is a clever plot and impressively executed.

This was so fun! I really loved the concept, and the meta approach to a person who writes how-to-write-a-mystery-book actually writing a mystery. I also really enjoyed the self-awareness, and the times he talked to the reader (or listener in the case of the audiobook) directly. I do kind of wish I'd read it instead of listening to it, because I think I would have enjoyed being able to flip back to the opening and basically the roadmap he provides and see how it all plays out.
