Violet Sorrengail is the youngest daughter of a military general, her mother. She is small and weak, destined and excited to become a Scribe. But her mother has other plans for her and enlists her as a dragon Rider. But there is more to Violet than meets the eye, even if she doesn't even know it herself yet. A wonderfully fun fantasy with an intelligent female main character and solid romance (although sometimes over the top), I quite enjoyed it.

I don’t know what more I can say about Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros that hasn’t already been said (and I mean that in the best way possible). This book has received so much well-deserved hype and I can’t wait to see how the story unfolds over the next four books!

I picked this up when it was released, because it was right up my alley, but I left it to sit on my shelves for a few weeks as the hype built and frankly made me nervous that it wouldn’t live up to the high expectations when I finally r I don’t know what more I can say about Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros that hasn’t already been said (and I mean that in the best way possible). This book has received so much well-deserved hype and I can’t wait to see how the story unfolds over the next four books!

I picked this up when it was released, because it was right up my alley, but I left it to sit on my shelves for a few weeks as the hype built and frankly made me nervous that it wouldn’t live up to the high expectations when I finally read it. Thankfully, those fears were unfounded, because I could not put this book down.

Fourth Wing was absolutely a five star read for me. The world building, characters, and their dynamics were so immersive - I was invested from the first page. The tension (and eventual pay off) between Violet and Xaden is what enemies-to-lovers dreams are made of. Xaden is such a swoon-worthy hero, and I loved the secondary cast of friends, family, and enemies too. The thoughtful yet authentic representation in this book was so appreciated. But what makes this book truly special is the dragons. The relationship between dragon and rider, how they’re chosen, how they communicate… it was all so well done and absolutely had me wishing for a dragon by the end. Tairn essentially being a grumpy overprotective dad to Violet was such a fun dynamic.

If I had to name one thing I struggled with it was that there were times when it felt like Yarros didn’t completely trust her readers and over explained or made connections on the page where it wasn’t needed. That said, this is her debut in the fantasy genre, and I think with time, the trust will come and she’ll know that we’re picking up what she’s laying down. It didn’t dampen my enjoyment of the book at all, but I could see why some people may have found that frustrating, particularly if you’re deeply immersed in the fantasy genre.

Overall, this was one of the most fun, propulsive books I’ve read in a long time. Whether you’re a new fantasy reader or you’re a lifelong lover of dragons and magic, I can’t recommend this book highly enough. And in particular if you grew up reading The Hunger Games and Divergent, and you want to read something just as addictive but in a lane all its own, you must, must, must make this your next read. Days later and I’m still thinking about this book. And how I want to read it again! I couldn’t put the book down on the initial read through. I was so invested in the characters and their struggles. I w ant more of this in my life!
