Once again I fall victim to the hype. Also I may hold a grudge that the library books came in when my New Year resolution was to read my own books. Oops.

Beautifully written and incredible descriptive language to be savored as one reads. This book was a solid 4.5 rounding easily up to 5 stars with an unusual plot as well as leading us through the marvels to be discovered in the marsh lands of North Carolina. I did question certain aspects of the story in the beginning, and was not riveted to the book at first, but it kept my interest due to the author’s beautiful descriptions of the treasures to be found in a landscape and environment few think t ...more

There was a key plot point where the book could have ended but didn’t—and it was fairly easy to guess the final twist from there. It was achingly sad in many parts, and achingly sweet in others.

Once I read the opening paragraph, I churned through Delia Owens’ book just as cleanly and neatly as her main protagonist Kya would pilot her boat through the estuaries and lagoons of her North Carolina marshes. I haven’t read a book in its entirety in a nearly continuous sitting in I can’t remember when.

The dialogue was a bit stiff at the beginning. Perhaps that was intentional in relating to the main character and her own awkwardness. I relished the literary references of some of my favorite n

There were a lot of discussions on Facebook regarding people disliking this book because there were a lot of descriptive parts -- I don't understand them, the descriptive "parts" are much of what made the book so good. Where the Crawdads Sing is a story about a little girl (Kya) whois abandoned by her entire family and left to live by herself in the marshland of the deep south. How she copes and who she eventually becomes is the story -- and Kya becomes something wonderful. The ending was a bit ...more

It took me a while to get into the book. I almost gave up. But glad I stuck with it. I loved the story and the characters. I tend to forget books but will probably remember the marsh girl.

The premise is intriguing. Shifting back and forth between the "Marsh Girl" and the murder mystery kept the story moving forward. The descriptive sections on setting and food were evocative, placing you at the scene and setting your mouth watering. The ending provides the necessary twist. However, the dialogue leaves something to be desired. Chase's character was either full of depth and conflicted or just poorly written. Kya's romantic adventures are predictable. I'm not sure it deserves the hy ...more
