Ok this book. I had high expectations because it was listed on a Goodreads Best Books list.
Right off the bat, I hated the character names. Mare Barrow? Bone Marrow.
All the way up to the 80% mark, I thought the plot was just another shabby dystopian society with a rebellion.
Aveyard has not one, not two, but THREE love interests. It's a love square, fam! Because Bone Marrow is just SOOO desirable and the hottest commodity on the market.

I read "Red Rising" this year, and I was not a huge fan. This book is extremely similar but has an X-Men-like, mid-evil setting twist to it. Yet its SO similar to "Red Rising" right off the bat. How similar, you ask? Let me borrow from a fellow reviewer who very succinctly laid it out:

Red Rising
- MC's (main character's) name is Darrow
- Caste society
- Low caste is Red
- MC is a Red
- High caste is Gold
- They have god-like powers
- MC infiltrates their ranks
- MC is key to the rebellion

I don't know. This was ok. She just seemed so passive and stupid. If you found out you had this incredible power wouldn't you test it and research it and wonder if your family had it. Eventually she found out all these things but only when people threw the information in her lap. Stupid stupid girl. ...more
