I fairly enjoyed this. I admit that I have seen both of the Percy Jackson movies prior to reading this. I was oddly surprised by how much the movie differed from the book. No clue why since that is usually the case. I have a feeling that I would have enjoyed this one much more if I had actually read it when I was a middle schooler. Well I decided to listen to the audio of this book on my phone since I was going to be painting. I enjoyed the story quite a bit. I had heard good things about this book and series and decided to start reading/listening to it. I found myself picturing the actual scenes while listening to the story. Now I will have to look at the other books in the series.
I have enjoyed this fresh take on the tween tale. Riordan is skillful in creating a world that is believable and yet astonishing. LOVE the Greek gods and goddesses as well a a wonderful weaving of myth, legend, and modern times. This is a fun read before bed series for adults, and I recommend it highly to tweens and parents of younger kids as a great family reading book. On to the rest of the series. :D
I always love a good fantasy coming-of-age story, so naturally I enjoyed this story.
Although the story followed a similar pattern to a wizarding story I once read, and wasn't a completely original take for the genre, I'm a sucker for fantasy based on Greek Mythology and loved the new spin on that. ...more
